For brands choosing a production partner or clarifying questions about an existing supplier. Screening establishes the basis for the sampling and production plan; quality control continues through the order.
What the proposed scope can include
- An agreed checklist of identity and production claims to review.
- A record of information received, its source and the date reviewed.
- A summary distinguishing supplier statements from independently checked information.
- Unresolved questions and suggested specialist checks where needed.

Establish who you are dealing with
Request the supplier's Chinese legal name, business identification details and operating address. Compare names across the quotation and supporting documents. If another entity will contract, invoice or receive payment, request a written explanation before deciding whether to proceed.
Check the claimed production role
Ask which work is performed at the stated location and which steps are subcontracted. Documents, photographs and video discussions can answer some questions, but they do not replace a site visit when physical capacity or operating conditions are central to your decision.
Keep the limits of each check visible
A business record does not establish garment quality, and a sample does not verify a factory's wider working conditions. Certification claims need to be checked against the relevant issuing body's records and scope. Product testing, social audits and pre-shipment inspections are separate specialist services, not implied by a basic supplier review.
Questions before you enquire
Is this a certified factory audit?
No. Basic sourcing checks are not a certified audit. If an audit or specialist inspection is needed, its provider, scope and cost must be agreed separately.
Does verification guarantee a safe order?
No. The purpose is to document evidence and gaps so you can make a more informed decision. It does not guarantee performance or eliminate risk.
